How To Use Wire Protector
January 29th, 2010 Posted in Tutorial - Basic Techniques by Steve | 3 CommentsWire Protectors, a.k.a Wire Guardians, are designed to protect wire from undue wear from clasps and other sharp-edged components. Similar to French wire, only stiff and pre-curved into a horseshoe shape. Finishing a necklace or a bracelet with Wire Protectors also ensures that you get nice, neat, even-sized, professional looking loops at each end.

Step 1: Pass the end of the beading wire through a crimp bead and through the tube on one side of the wire protector. You will notice that there is a tube on each end of the wire protector, with a channel in between.

Step 2: Pass the beading wire back through the tube and crimp bead.

Step 3: Pass tail of beading wire back through a couple beads.

Step 4: As you pull on the beading wire it will lay in the channel. Making sure that your crimp bead & Wire Protectors fit together without any spaces. Flatten the crimp bead using a chain/flat nose pliers.
Alternatively, crimp the crimp bead using Crimping Pliers. In this case, you might need to slightly pinch the Wire Protector so that the two ends touch gently together before crimping.

Step 5: Trim off the excess beading wire.

Picture shown above a correct finished look. You will not see the end of beading wire.

Do not trim off the beading wire right after the crimp bead.
